Mommy and Max

A day without Oliver and Wesley is like a day without mayhem. This is the first 21-hour period I've ever had in my home in their absence (I've traveled a few times by myself, but haven't been in my own space without them). They went camping with their father and Uncle Mark overnight. Oliver went camping a few weeks ago by himself with daddy, and when he realized they were going again, he explained it to Wesley, the camping newbie. "Marshmallows, Wesley! Marshmallows on sticks, Wesley! Wesley, fire and marshmallows! Camping, Wesley!" Wesley got the picture.

It's just me and Max here at home, and it's wonderful! Max is so happy and funny and totally appreciates that he has my full attention. Mostly he wants to sit in my lap and read books, dance, and eat. He has recently started his meals as soon as I start cooking for the family - he eats crackers and fruit in the high chair and watches me cook. This gives him 45-50 minutes for a meal, and then wants snacks shortly thereafter. He just eats, laughs, and dances his way through life -- I should do the same.

I thought I might paint a ceiling or write an article while I had some peace and quiet, but instead I'm just watching TV and eating cookies. I think I made the right choice.
